My father was the first non aboriginal person to have been bitten by a shark and survived in Australia. He was 18, swimming at main beach, a shark was circling around his friend, so my father, Thomas Cameron McDonald swam over to help him. The shark grabbed my father across his stomach and threw him up in the air, his sisters on the beach could see the blood as he was tossed, when he came down he was very fortunate to be able to catch a wave into shore. He had many large round scars across his stomach where the shark had bitten him.
